BFC release Menyongar; Contract extension for Rooney
The newly crowned champions have parted ways with John Menyongar while forward Sean Rooney has been offered an extension...
I-League champions Bengaluru FC have released midfield maestro John Menyongar following their success in the I-League in their debut season.
The midfielder who has been rock solid for the Blues this season was a notable absentee from the open bus parade organized by the club yesterday and the news of his release followed soon after.
Australian forward Sean Rooney, on the other hand, has been offered a contract extension after his good showing this season where he nothed up 10 goals.
Ashley Westwood was all praise for the striker. He said," He’s put in a good shift, scored 11 goals (the goal against United SC was called an own goal though). He worked hard, played through the pain barrier – a double hernia for four or five games. He deserved his new contract.”
With only one slot open for a foreigner, the gaffer went on to state that the club have got 3-4 players lined up, possibly with a Premiership background. He also mentioned the areas where they will be looking to strengthen for next season.
“I’ve always used strength down the spine – center-forward, central midfield, central defense. So, it’ll either be a center forward or a central midfielder."
