United Sports Club set to sign a Nigerian striker on deadline day
The Kolkata club has showed commendable alacrity in signing their fourth foreigner after the exit of Ranti Martins...
United Sports Club are in advanced talks with Nigerian striker Adekunle Owolabi Wahid to fill the void left by the departure of Ranti Martins who is set to join Rangdajied United.
Wahid plies his trade for Kolkata's George Telegraph and shall join United on loan that expires at the end of the season.
This may well be termed as a panic-buy by the Purple Brigade, who had little options to choose from in order to find a stop-gap striker for the remaining nine matches of the I-League.
"We are in talks with Wahid. As things stand now, he will join us by today," Nabab Bhattacharya, the United official told Goal on Saturday morning.
United were in dire need of a striker as Ranti Martins chose to part ways with the team amid financial struggles and C.K.Vineeth had also secured a loan move to Bengaluru FC.
Now with Baldeep Singh scoring a few goals in the IFA Shield and the Federation Cup, Wahid will lead the line upfront with the former JCT player for the rest of the season.
