Sporting Clube de Goa were crowned champions after thrashing Vasco Sports Club 6-0 in GFA’s U-14 League First Division, at Don Bosco ground Panjim, on Tuesday.

Sporting Goa led 3-0 at the interval.

This was the final game of the season and Sporting Goa needed a victory to clinch the title. After sealing the three points, Sporting Goa finished on 22 points from nine matches while Dempo were runners up with 20 points from the same number of games.

Sporting Goa duo Aman Govekar and Stendly Fernandes finished the league as joint top goal scorers with 9 goals each from nine matches.

“I think the players played extremely well in the first half showing the perfect attitude and hard work. In the second half they started to relax, but I am happy with the overall performance,” remarked Sporting Goa U-14 Coach Javier Cabrera.

Sporting Goa raced into the lead when Niraj Parekh blasted in after just 12 minutes. Midway through the first half Sporting Goa was lucky to double the lead when Aaron Fernandes’ cross was headed into the net by a Vasco defender.

Stendly Fernandes made it three for the Flaming Oranje two minutes before the breather with a superb dribble and shot.

Changing Over, Aman Govekar did well to control the ball in a tight situation and fired into the bottom corner.

Eight minutes from time, Malcom Gonsalves smashed the ball home from close range. Stendly added the final nail in the coffin with a beautiful free kick to make it six for Sporting Goa.
