The captain of the Purple Brigade has decided to come back to his old stomping ground after 11 long years...
Deepak Mandal, the veteran full-back of United Sports, have agreed a two-year deal with East Bengal on Friday.

"I will be part of East Bengal for the next two years," Deepak told Goal on Friday evening.

The right-back who have also made 62 appearances for the national team, made it clear that the financial crisis is the only reason he is leaving United.

"It's hard to continue amidst the financial struggles for another year. But I will like to make it clear that the monetary issue is the the only problem I am leaving my club for. United remains a family for me," the defender, who has plied his trade for the Purple Brigade for the last three seasons, remarked.

He also conceded that playing for East Bengal, a club where he won several trophies is a different feeling altogether.

"I have last played here in 2003. It's always great to be part of East Bengal or Mohun Bagan and I will like to fulfill the expectations of the supporters this time also," he told.

With the departure of their captain, the mass exodus from United is now crystal clear, as Deepak was one of the most staunchest supporters of the club during the financial crisis.

Deepak becomes the second United player to join the roster of East Bengal this year after Mohammed Rafique.

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.
