Derrick Pereira: I’m not sure if it was a penalty
The Salgaocar coach admitted that he has his doubts over whether the penalty was legitimate…
Churchill Brothers registered a 2-1 victory over Salgaocar FC last week in order to save themselves from relegation. The Red Machines were awarded a soft penalty in the sixth minute when Chka Wali was said to have fouled Jaison Vales inside the box. The resultant spot-kick was saved by Karanjit Singh but Augustin Fernandes scored an own goal while intending to clear.
“There were some moments of panic. After the first goal it was pretty much even. I think the first goal was doubtful. I don’t know if it was a penalty, I think Chika clearly headed the ball. I am not sure that he headed the ball cleanly. And of course Karanjit did well; unfortunately Augustin was in a hurry to clear. I think they put him of balance. I felt that way.
“Yes otherwise again our midfield could have done better. They are working very hard but going forward we struggled. Overall it was a good season for us. I am happy that we ended up in third position,” said Derrick Pereira.
He spoke of his plans to bring in more youngsters at the club so that they stay with them for the next three to five years.
“Changes have to be made. There are players who really performed well and we need to look forward. We need to look into the future, into the long term. We need to get youngsters who will be there for us for the next three-to-five years and we have to learn.”
