The All India Football Federation (AIFF) invited bids for new clubs in the top league tier of Indian football...
With an aim to induct minimum of new clubs as part of the I-League, the All India Football Federation (AIFF), is conducting an open house meeting on May 15 at the Football House, Delhi for interested parties to discuss and solicit suggestions.
The invitation tender can be obtained from the AIFF Headquarters from May 6 onwards which would explain the intricacies of how the bids are required to be submitted.
The winning bidders shall be granted the right to own and operate a new football club for competing in the I-League from the 2014-15 season. They would also be granted an exemption from relegation for three seasons, as was the last time around. All bids must be submitted by June 2.
Last season, Jindal Steel Works (JSW) won the bid to own an I-League club from Bangalore and since then, Bengaluru FC have gone on to win the title in their very first season in top flight.
The AIFF wishes to give the I-League a more pan-India feel and have suggested that bids should ideally come from cities where a team isn’t already present.
“AIFF may give preference at its own discretion to bids received from Clubs/Entities who want to operate from non I-League Cities like Ahmedabad, Baroda, Chennai, etc," stated a release from the Indian FA.
